When Nothing’s “Wrong,” but You Don’t Feel Quite Right

Have you ever found yourself saying, “I don’t know what’s wrong… I just feel off”?

There’s no big drama. Nothing is obviously broken. On paper, your life might even look great.

But something in you knows-it’s not quite right. You’re not yourself. You feel a little out of sorts.

This is far more common than you might think. In fact, it’s something I hear often from women who come to see me for mind+body therapy. And more often than not, what they’re really saying is:

“I’ve been holding too much, for too long… and I’m finally ready to listen.”

The Whisper from Your Wise Body

Before tension becomes pain.
Before exhaustion becomes burnout.
Before disconnection becomes despair.

There’s a quiet stage-a phase where your nervous system is tethered just tightly enough that you can still get through the day, but not quite comfortably.

It’s in this place that many women find themselves.
They’re not in crisis. But they’re not feeling quite well.
They’re not broken. But they’re not thriving.

This is the whisper. And your body is wise enough to whisper before it needs to shout.

There are subtle signals from your body that don’t always make sense at first:

  • A heaviness in your chest or shoulders.
  • A knot in your stomach.
  • A foggy mind that used to be sharp.
  • Restlessness in your sleep or an ache in your back.

These physical sensations are often the body’s language for emotions you haven’t yet named. And while they may feel random or mild, they carry information.

The beauty of working with the body-through mind+body practices-is that we begin to decode these signals. We stop pushing them away and start listening with compassion and intention.

The Cause and Effect Within the Layers of the Body

In yoga therapy, we use a model called the Pancha Mayakosha-often described as the five layers of the self. You might visualise them like nested babushka dolls, but in Sanskrit they’re called koshas, which means “layers” or “sheaths.”

Each kosha reflects a different part of your human experience, and all are interconnected.

1. Annamaya Kosha – The Physical Body Where tension, pain, fatigue, or posture speak. This is where the signals start.

2. Pranamaya Kosha – The Energy Body Your breath, vitality, and nervous system regulation live here. This is often where dysregulation quietly starts.

3. Manomaya Kosha – The Mental/Emotional Body Home to your thoughts, patterns, self-talk, and emotional processing.

4. Vijnanamaya Kosha – The Wisdom Layer Your inner knowing, intuition, and the ability to discern what’s true for you.

5. Anandamaya Kosha – The Bliss Layer A sense of peace, joy, and connection to something greater than yourself.

One of the most powerful teachings of the koshas is this: what happens in one layer can affect them all.

If your mind is critical or anxious (Manomaya), your body often tightens in response (Annamaya)-maybe in the jaw, shoulders, or lower back.

When your energy is depleted (Pranamaya), your mind often follows-becoming foggy, scattered, or self-doubting.

If you’re disconnected from your inner wisdom (Vijnanamaya), it’s easy to ignore the body’s cues until they become symptoms.

In healing, we don’t treat just the symptom.
We look beneath it-through the layers-to understand the root.

This is why the kosha model is so helpful: it teaches us to listen deeply, and to trace the ripple effect through our body-mind system. Healing becomes more than just feeling “better.” It becomes a process of reconnecting all parts of you, in harmony.

Why Slow Is the New Fast – Trusting the Call to Heal

Your body is always working to protect you-even when your mind insists there’s nothing wrong.

At the deepest level, the body stores experience as cellular memory, shaping how you move, breathe, and respond. Sometimes, it feels as if the body has a mind of its own. That’s not dysfunction. That’s intelligence.

In a world that celebrates intensity, urgency, constant output, and emotional detachment, slowing down can feel lazy, indulgent, or even weak.

But slowing down isn’t failure. It’s healing.
Especially when your nervous system is overtaxed and stretched thin.

The body will not open under pressure.
But it will soften in the presence of trust.
It will respond when it feels safe.

This is why so many women are drawn to mind+body therapies-not necessarily because they’re in pain, but because something inside them knows it’s time to shift.

These approaches don’t fix you. They listen to you.
They speak to the body’s innate wisdom-and create space for that wisdom to be heard.

When you allow that space… your body begins to respond.
Not always instantly. But deeply. Lastingly. Wholly.

And the healing journey begins with a single, courageous moment:

“I don’t know why I’m here. I just knew I needed this.”

That’s not confusion.
That’s wisdom.
That’s your inner compass remembering the way back home.

You don’t need to wait for a crisis.
You don’t need to prove you’re worthy of support.

If something feels off, that’s enough. You’re allowed to follow that feeling.

When you do, you’re not just choosing healing-
You’re choosing self-trust.
You’re choosing presence.
You’re choosing to live in rhythm with your deeper self.
